Dear Families,
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child to a new year at Detroit Academy of Arts & Sciences. I am looking forward to getting to know you and your child throughout the coming year, which surely promises to bring with it, many new experiences and challenges. In order to make the year a successful one, teamwork and cooperation will be required by all. As your child’s teacher, it is my goal to help them become a confident learner and I will do my best to help make this year a positive experience for your child.
Next, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Dale VanWashenova and this will be my fourth year at DAAS and I consider myself very fortunate to be among a very professional faculty here at DAAS. I am a graduate of Central and Eastern Michigan Universities and I am currently pursuing my Master’s Degree at Eastern Michigan University. In my spare time I love to participate in athletics, camping, reading, and spend time with my family and friends.
I realize that educating your child is a privilege, as well as a tremendous responsibility. I will do my best this year to ensure that each student has a motivating and safe learning experience in my classroom. I challenge each of you to encourage your child at home by helping to ensure that they have completed their assignments and study for any tests. I will keep you informed of assignments and subjects with a weekly planner that will require a signature and returned the following day.
In the near future you will receive a class syllabus that may help answer some of your questions about our classroom and expectations. I know with your help and our partnership, we are going to have a great year.
Sincerely,
Mr. Dale VanWashenova
